README FOR SKOGAFOSS CRUISE AOML_SKO608 The electronic data in comma delimited ASCII form (.CSV) can be found at: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/ocd/gcc/ ****************** Use of AOML CO2 Underway Data ************************** * [Adapted from NOAA Earth System and Diagnostic Laboaratory (ESDL) * ************* Carbon Cycle Greenhouse Gasses (CCGG) web site] ************* These data are made freely available to the public and the scientific community in the belief that their wide dissemination will lead to greater understanding and new scientific insights. The availability of these data does not constitute publication of the data. We rely on the ethics and integrity of the user to assure that AOML receives fair credit for our work. Please send manuscripts using this data to AOML for review before they are submitted for publication so we can insure that the quality and limitations of the data are accurately represented. *********************** Reciprocity Agreement ***************************** * [Adapted from NOAA Earth System and Diagnostic Laboaratory (ESDL) * ************* Carbon Cycle Greenhouse Gasses (CCGG) web site] ************* Use of these data implies an agreement to reciprocate. Laboratories making similar measurements agree to make their own data available to the general public and to the scientific community in an equally complete and easily "accessible form. Modelers are encouraged to make available to the community, " "upon request, their own tools used in the interpretation of the AOML data," namely well documented model code and any additional information necessary for other scientists to repeat the work and to run modified versions. *************************************************************************** For a full description of the instrumentation and procedures, see the MASTER README file accessible thru the MASTER README link located in the left navigation bar of the Skogafoss web pages. Class of data: Surface ocean carbon dioxide concentrations Dataset identifier: AOML_SKO608 Cruise Dates: July 23 - 13 August, 2006 Measurement platform identifier: M/V Skogafoss Scientists responsible for technical quality of this dataset: Rik Wanninkhof Rik.Wanninkhof@noaa.gov Denis Pierrot Denis.Pierrot@noaa.gov Kevin Sullivan Kevin.Sullivan@noaa.gov Timestamp for initial submission of dataset: 2-November-06 Timestamp for most recent update of dataset: 17-May-07 The following gas reference standards were used for this cruise: From April 16, 2006 to October 24, 2006 STANDARDS/CONC TANK # Std 1 197.74 fa02271 Std 2 455.18 fa02435 Std 3 373.20 ja02282 Std 4 293.50 fa02255 Comments: On 30 July, 2006, some improvements and maintenace was done on the system while the Skogafoss was in Boston. The GEMS paddlewheel water flow meter was replaced by Proteus water flow meter (#0504SN2). The frequency output of the GEMS meter had been monitored by a SuperLogic 8080 module. That module was removed from the system. The (0-5 vdc) output of the Proteus meter was wired to channel 3 on the SuperLogic 8017 module. New calibration coefficients for the Proteus meter were put in the 'cal.dat' file. Both PermaPure naphion dryers were replaced. The atmospheric pump is still not delivering more than 50 ml/min flow; however, with sequential samples there is enough flushing of lines for some acceptable analyses. A digital timer was put between the power transformer and the deck box. It was set to turn the power off for one minute every day. This resetting of the Iridium modem has been found to be necessary if the modem is being left on continuously for days.
