Source: The data in this archival information package (NODC accession)
is the content of NODC standard DVD-ROM product World Ocean Database 2009,
NODC-DVD-12 and 13. All data on these discs were extracted from other data
collections archived at the National Oceanographic Data Center at the
time the discs were created.


Actions: An ISO disc image of each original disc was created using standard
disc duplication software and copied to data/0-data/disc_image/. The
content of each original disc was extracted 'as is' to 
data/0-data/disc_contents/. Executable files included on the original discs
were removed from 0-data/disc_contents/ but source code for programs were 
retained.

Files:
about/
This directory contains files created by NODC staff that describe the
contents of the disc.
 
0094887_lonlat.txt - 
  Contains sample locations for these data.  Each row contains the geographical 
  position where these data were collected (longitude in the left column and 
  latitude in the right column, both in degrees).  NODC may have corrected 
  geographic positions that seemed to be in error when generating this file. 
  However, NODC did not change the original data files under the directory 
  data/0-data/.

data/0-data/
This directory contains the data files from the original NODC-12 and 13 discs.

data/0-data/disc_image/
This directory contains an ISO disc image file for each disc that can be
used by several CD-ROM / DVD-ROM authoring software applications to
create an exact duplicate of the original discs.

data/0-data/disc_contents/
This directory contains all of the individual directories and files, in
their original order, to provide direct access to the data on the original 
discs. Software that was developed or provided with this NODC Standard 
Product may be included in the disc_image/ directory as part of the 
disc image, but all software that was developed or provided with this 
NODC Standard Product has been excluded from the disc_contents/ directory.
